While the governments across the globe suggested staying home to contain the spread of coronavirus, the epidemiologists of South Korea have found that people were more likely to contract new coronavirus from members of their own households.
According to a study published in the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the epidemiologists studied around 5,706 "index patients" who had tested positive for the coronavirus and around 59,000 people who came into contact with them.
The study revealed that just two out of 100 infected people had caught the virus from non-household contacts. One out of 10 had contracted the contagion disease from their own family member. The infection rate of coronavirus from the household was higher among teenagers or people aged between 60 to 70.
As per Jeong Eun-Kyeong, director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) and one of the authors of the study, this is probably because such age groups are more close to the family members as such age group needs more protection, support or care.
Dr. Choe Young-june, a Hallym University College of Medicine assistant professor who co-led the work said that there is no huge significance in the different age groups when it comes to contracting coronavirus.
