India reported a single-day spike of 52,972 positive cases and 771 deaths in the last 24 hours, as of Monday morning. The total number of coronavirus cases in India has increased to 18,03,696 out of which 5,79,357 are active cases, 1,186,203 have been cured and discharged while 38,135 have died due to the pandemic, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Monday stated that the number of COVID-19 tests has crossed 2 crore-mark in India with 2,02,02,858 tests conducted till August 2. Of these, 3,81,027 tests were conducted on Sunday. Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa stated that "I have tested positive for coronavirus. Whilst I am fine, I am being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors. I request those who have come in contact with me recently to be observant and exercise self-quarantine." On Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that he has tested positive for coronavirus. My health is fine, but I am being admitted to the hospital on the advice of doctors.
