Coronavirus: With more than 40k cases in last 24 hours, India's Covid tally crosses 11-lakh mark

India's coronavirus case tally has crossed the 11 lakh-mark with the highest single-day spike of 40,425 new cases and 681 deaths in the last 24 hours, as of Monday morning. Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in India has increased to 11,18,043 out of which 3,90,459 are active cases, 7,00,087 are cured and discharged while 27,497 have died due to the pandemic, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Monday. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) stated that around 1,40,47,908 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to July 19 out of which 2,56,039 were tested on Sunday. This week, India witnessed the sharpest increase in active cases, with more than 88,000 being added to it. It took the active caseload to around 3.9 lakh. INDIA’S CASE FATALITY RATE FALLS BELOW 2.5% FOR FIRST TIME Meanwhile, Assam which is currently dealing with the floods, reported 1,018 Covid-19 cases on July 19, including 577 cases from Guwahati City. The total number of coronavirus in the state stands at 23,999, including 16,023 recovered, 7,916 active cases and 57 deaths.
