India confirms one case each of coronavirus in Delhi, Telangana

Coronavirus in India: The Government of India on Monday confirmed two more cases of coronavirus in the country. The Government of India was quoted by news agency ANI as saying that "Two more cases of coronavirus have been reported, one each from New Delhi and Telangana. Both the patients are stable and being closely monitored."

What Union Health Minister has to say? 

Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that "Two positive cases of coronavirus in Delhi and Telangana have been reported. Their travel history is from Italy and Dubai; total positive cases in India till now is 5." "As the situation develops, the travel restrictions may be further extended to other countries also," he added. Adding, he said that "Screening of the passengers are being conducted at 21 airports, 12 major seaports, and 65 minor seaports. So far, 5, 57,431 passengers have been screened at airports and 12,431 passengers have been screened on minor and major seaports." "Under the travel advisory, the existing visas including e-visas will remain suspended for China and Iran. As the situation develops, the travel restrictions may be extended to other countries also," Harsh Vardhan said. Meanwhile, he stated that "We advise Indians to avoid non-essential travel to China, Iran, Korea, Singapore, and Italy."

What is the global situation?

The death toll across the globe, due to coronavirus, has crossed 3000, as China reported 42 more deaths. Meanwhile, the Chinese province Hubei witnessed more than 9 percent of deaths where the virus emerged late last year. Likewise, there have been deaths in 10 other countries including more than 50 fatalities in Iran and 30 in Italy.

What about China?

The death toll in China has risen to 2,912 with more than 80,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus. 40 more deaths were reported in Hubei on Monday with 202 new confirmed cases, out of which six were reported from outside Hubei. Meanwhile, a man was sentenced to death by a Chinese court on Monday for stabbing two officials at a virus checkpoint. What is Coronavirus?

Coronavirus is a family of viruses that causes a range of illnesses in humans and more severe forms like Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) which are life-threatening. The virus has been named after its shape which takes the form of a crown with protrusions around it and hence it is called coronavirus.

What are its symptoms?

The health authorities have been unable to predict how severe the illness will be for each and individual patient. Some of the patients have no visible symptoms at all or display mild ones, others fall severely ill and die. -PTC News
