India confirms 5,194 cases; death toll rises to 149

The death toll in India due to coronavirus rose to 149 while the number of cases to 5,194 on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The number of active coronavirus cases is 4,643 out of which 401 people have been cured and discharged while one had migrated. The total number of coronavirus cases include 70 foreign nationals. As per the ministry's data updated at 9 am, 25 deaths have been reported since Tuesday. Of 25, 16 deaths have been reported from Maharashtra, while 2 each from Delhi, West Bengal, Haryana, and Tamil Nadu and 1 from Andhra Pradesh. So far, Maharashtra has reported most deaths at 64, followed by Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh at 13 each while Delhi at 9. West Bengal registered five deaths, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh reported four each, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan recorded three deaths each. Likewise, two deaths each have been reported from Jammu and Kashmir, and Kerala. Meanwhile, there have been several speculations over the extension of the lockdown, however, there has been no official confirmation about the same. -PTC News
