Coronavirus positive cases in India rise to 81,970; death toll 2,649
The total number of coronavirus (COVID 19) cases in India has increased to 81,970 after 3,967 new positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours, as of Friday morning. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the death toll stands at 2,649 after 100 new deaths were reported from the country in the last 24 hours. The Health Ministry was quoted by news agency ANI as saying: "Spike of 3967 COVID-19 cases and 100 deaths in India, in the last 24 hours. The total number of positive cases in the country is now at 81,970, including 51,401 active cases, 27,920 cured and discharged cases and 2649 deaths" After being corona free for many days, Goa has reported seven fresh cases of coronavirus taking the total number of cases to 14. Similarly, in Manipur a fresh case has been reported after 26 days, taking the total tally in this Northeast state to 3 so far. In Maharashtra, the coronavirus cases have climbed to 27,524 followed by Tamil Nadu with 9,674 COVID-19 cases and Gujarat with 9,591 cases so far. Maharashtra has reported the highest number of deaths, 1,019, followed by 586 in Gujarat and 237 in Madhya Pradesh. As many as 8,470 people in the national capital have been diagnosed with the highly contagious disease. India has been practicing social distancing to contain the spread of coronavirus.
