Chandigarh reports 5 new cases of coronavirus; tally rises to 439
The total number of coronavirus cases in Chandigarh has increased to 439 after the Union Territory reported five new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday. According to the information, 3 of 5 new cases were reported from Sector-41, where a 15-year-old boy, a 47-year-old woman, and a 53-year-old were tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Reportedly, the other two cases were reported from Sector-23 were a 65-year-old woman and a 36-year-old woman contracted with contagion disease. Currently, the active cases in the Union territory have increased to 84. As per the report, Chandigarh is behind at least 18 states and union territories in the context of testing samples for Covid-19. While the states and UTs like Goa and Ladakh have tested more than 40,000 samples per million population, Chandigarh has conducted only 6,323 tests per million population so far, the report said. Meanwhile, the UT health officials have claimed that the low testing is because of "less spread of coronavirus in the city". Health Secretary, UT, Arun Gupta, stated that the reason behind low testing as compared to other states and UTs could be less spread of the contagion disease in Chandigarh.
