New Delhi, March 15: Member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) Randeep Singh Surjewala on Tuesday said Congress President Sonia Gandhi had asked PCC presidents of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur to put in their resignations in order to facilitate reorganisation of PCCs. This comes following the debacle of the party in the Assembly elections.
Randeep Singh Surjewala shared this information on his official Twitter handle.
After this order, Uttarakhand Congress president Ganesh Godiyal immediately resigned from the post.

The Assembly election results in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Goa and Punjab were declared after counting of the votes on March 10. The BJP secured a majority in Uttar Pradesh, Manipur and Uttarakhand. In Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) swept the polls.

In a statement following the CWC meeting, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said corrective measures decided at the meeting would be swiftly implemented. "Congress president will immediately take up corrective measures to revamp, re-strengthen organisation," he said. Ganesh Godiyal is the Congress chief of Uttarakhand, who has already resigned. Meanwhile, Goa Congress president Girish Chodankar resigned on Tuesday taking moral responsibility for the party's defeat in the state Assembly elections. The results of the five Assembly elections came as a shock to the Congress which was hoping to do well to revive its prospects for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and to fend off the emerging challenge from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Trinamool Congress to replace it as the fulcrum of anti-BJP politics in the country.
