City Centre Scam Punjab: Ludhiana court acquits all accused including CM Captain Amarinder Singh

A Ludhiana court, on Wednesday, acquitted all the accused, including Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, in the multi-crore city center scam. The accused, including the chief minister, appeared in the Ludhiana court for trial. Captain Amarinder Singh proposed the multi-crore City Centre infrastructure project including a shopping mall, residential towers, helipad and multiplex, among others on 25-acre land at Pakhowal Road, Ludhiana. The site is now in ruins. The project was supposed to be executed by Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT), which is under the local bodies department of the Punjab government. Captain Amarinder Singh, his son Raninder Singh, son-in-law Raminder Singh and 33 others were accused in the case. They were booked for alleged corruption and cheating under Sections 420, 409, 465, 467, 468, 471, 201 and 120-B of the IPC, sections 7,8,9,13 (1), 13(2) and 14 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA), 1988. https://www.ptcnews.tv/wife-of-radha-soami-chief-baba-gurinder-singh-shabnam-dhillon-dies-in-london/ Five of the 36 accused, Chaudhary Jagjit Singh (then local bodies’ minister), Paramjit Singh Sibia (then LIT chairman), Malkeet Kaur, Vijay Kumar Parti and Sunil Kumar Sharma, died during trial. The Vigilance Bureau alleged that Captain Amarinder Singh has caused a loss of at least Rs 1,144 crore to the exchequer by favouring private company M/S Today Homes in connivance with LIT officials and others. It was also alleged that the Congress was trying to secure funding of at least Rs 100 crore from this project for the 2007 elections. -PTC News
