Chennai rain kills three; offices, schools, colleges shut

Chennai: Heavy rain has thrown life out of gear in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. As many as three persons were electrocuted to death while four subways have been closed de to waterlogging. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has declared a holiday on Friday for all government offices except those engaged in essential services, schools, and colleges in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, and Chengalpatu districts due to heavy rain. Waterlogging has led to long traffic jams in the city. Confirming the three deaths due to electrocution, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister KKSSR Ramachandran said disaster and relief work was in full swing. They had already shut four subways due to waterlogging and two companies of the NDRF were already in the city. Due to heavy rain, the storage level of Chembarambakkam lake has increased with the level rising to 98 per cent of the total capacity.
