Chandigarh: Police arrest 21 for fraud, extortion through Chinese apps

Chandigarh, September 13: The Cyber Crime Cell of the Chandigarh police has arrested at least 21 members of a gang, including a Chinese national living illegally in India, for duping people on the pretext of providing them instant loans online and extorting money. According to sources, complainants received small loans from Chinese Apps that they discovered via social media or SMS. Following that, the complainants began receiving threat calls from various numbers. Even when the loan was repaid or no loan was taken at all, threat calls were received. "There have been incidents of fraud through Chinese apps. We received a complaint regarding the same. Cyber team of Chandigarh police arrested 21 people, including a Chinese national, within 10 days from 5 states," said RK Singh, IGP, Chandigarh.
