Centre raises limits on airfares; domestic flights to get costlier [details Inside]

Domestic flights India price: Air travel is going to be more expensive as the Ministry of Civil Aviation on Thursday hiked the lower and upper limits on domestic airfares by 10-30 percent. The lower limit for the first band, consisting of flights less than 40 minutes has been increased from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,200 while the upper limit in this band has been increased from Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,800. These new limits would remain "in force up to March 31, 2021, or until further orders", the ministry stated. Earlier on May 21, the Ministry of Civil Aviation had placed some limits on airfares while announcing the resumption of domestic flights. The Domestic flights in India resumed on May 25 after nearly two months of suspension in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. Meanwhile, the scheduled international passenger flights continue to remain suspended in India since March 23, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Likewise, some special international flights have been operating since July last year under air bubble arrangements.
