The Central government is likely to extend the coronavirus lockdown, imposed to contain the spread of COVID-19, till June 15, a report suggested. However, there could be more relaxations in it, CNN News18 reported. Currently, India is under the fourth phase of the lockdown and is slated to end on May 31. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had first announced the lockdown in an order to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus on March 24. Since then, the nation is under the lockdown. A top home ministry functionary stated that the next phase of the lockdown will be a “lockdown extension in spirit”. Also, the functionary said that most of the focus would be on 11 cities that account for nearly 70 percent of the coronavirus cases in the country. The 11 cities include Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, as well as Pune, Thane, Jaipur, Surat and Indore. Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in India has crossed the 1.5 lakh mark, with the maximum number of cases being reported from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi.
