Muhurat Trading: Muhurat trading, a unique and auspicious event in the Indian stock market, is set to take place on Friday, November 1, coinciding with Laxmi Puja during Diwali. This special one-hour trading session, recognised by both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), allows investors to make trades at an auspicious time, believed to bring prosperity for the year ahead.

On this occasion, regular trading will remain closed in observance of Diwali, with the only market activity being the Muhurat trading session scheduled between 6 pm and 7 pm. Prior to this, there will be a pre-opening phase from 5.45 pm to 6 pm.

The Muhurat trading session will encompass all market segments, including equity, commodity derivatives, currency derivatives, equity futures and options (F&O), and securities lending and borrowing (SLB). Additionally, the Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) has announced its own Muhurat trading session during the same time frame, extending client code modifications from 6 pm to 7. 15 pm.

Historical significance of Muhurat Trading

The tradition of Muhurat trading dates back many years, originating from the belief that investments made during this auspicious time will yield fruitful results in the coming year. The BSE was the first to formalise this practice, with the NSE following in later years.

For traders and investors, Muhurat trading serves as an important ritual to start the new financial year on a positive note, fostering optimism and setting the tone for future investments. As the Diwali celebrations continue, this trading session provides an opportunity for market participants to engage in a symbolic act of prosperity and success.
