Chandigarh air quality plummets as AQI slips into 'very poor', turns worse than Delhi

PTC News Desk: Chandigarh has been witnessing severe air pollution since last few days. The air quality index has slipped into the very poor category and has turned worse than the national capital.
The air quality index recorded by the Central Pollution Control Board, Chandigarh’s AQI stood at 339 in the ‘very poor’ category, while Delhi’s index was 334. The air quality has stayed in the category since past four days while officials have describe stubble burning as the cause of deteriorating air quality.
Meanwhile the air quality index in national capital has been recorded at 334 within the 'very poor' range. To mitigate the rising pollution menace in Delhi, the Delhi government has rolled out several initiatives with 'EV as a service' being one of them. The programme was launched with an objective to promote electric vehicles as eco friendly alternatives.
Besides, state government conducted trials of "drone-based mist spraying" at state's pollution hotspots where pollution level is usually higher than city's average AQI. The drones used in this pilot can carry up to 15 litres of water, releasing a fine mist to help suppress airborne pollutants, especially in crowded or inaccessible areas.
