8 special trains introduced after suspension of flight services at Bagdogra airport
Siliguri (West Bengal), April 14: Due to the suspension of flight services at Bagdogra airport earlier this month, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced eight trains for various routes from New Jalpaiguri station to provide passengers with respite. The Bagdogra airport has suspended flight operations from the 11th to the 25th of this month owing to runway repairs. The airport handled a total of 28 flights. As a result, there has been a massive rush of tourists and passengers to purchase train tickets. According to the railway official, as a result of this, they were running eight more special trains on a weekly basis to meet the demand. Earlier, flights were disrupted several times after the airport officials spotted cracks in some parts of the runway. Now, the Indian Air Force, which manages the sole runway and the air traffic control at Bagdogra, will carry out re-carpeting of the runway from April 11 to 26 and all flights will remain suspended.
