2nd peak of COVID-19 likely to be more severe: Study
Coronavirus Punjab: Amid growing concerns over rising coronavirus cases, a study reported that the 2nd peak of COVID-19 was yet to come and that it was expected to be higher than the first one. A study by Ludhiana-based Christian Medical College stated that there could be almost 3,000 cases a day by the end of this week. The highest single-day deaths (106) were reported on September 2 while on Sunday, 2,669 cases were reported. The Ludhiana-based Christian Medical College, in its study based on mathematical calculations, predicted that Punjab could see the 2nd peak of COVID-19 again later this week or in the first week of April. Even as Punjab Chief Secretary Vini Mahajan said that it was important to gear up all healthcare infrastructure immediately and ensure that all protocols were followed strictly by the people. Punjab on Sunday reported 44 new deaths due to coronavirus out of which Amritsar reported 5, Ferozepur 1, Gurdaspur 7, Hoshiarpur 10, Jalandhar 6, Kapurthala 1, Ludhiana 8, Pathankot 1, Patiala 1, SAS Nagar 1, Sangrur 1, and Tarn Taran 2.
