25th Annual Conference of Association of Radiation Oncologists of India – North Zone held at Sri Guru Ram Das University of Health Sciences, Amritsar
Amritsar: The 25th Annual Conference of Association of Radiation Oncologist of India – North Zone was held at Sri Guru Ram Das University of Health Sciences, Sri Amritsar from 21st September, 2019. The conference was graced by the presence of Dr. G. K. Rath, Director National Cancer Institute, Jhajjar Haryana as honourable Chief Guest and Dr. Roop Singh, Chief Secretary, Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar as a Guest of Honour. Addressing the gathering Dr. Roop Singh revealed lot of patients come from far abroad to this institution for the treatment of the chronic decease cancer due to updated and modern treatment facilities. Keeping in view the problems being faced by the attendants and patients the Sri Guru Ram Das Charitable Hospital Trust has decided to construct a Sarai for their stay. On this occasionDr. G. K. Rath who had also been Professor and Head radiation Onlocogy AIIMS, New Delhi was overmhelmed after seeing the Department of Radiation Oncology at SGRD Hospital, Amritsar with state of art CT Simulator, Triple Energy Linear Accelerator with facilities of IMRT and IGRT and Brachytherapy. Dr. Rajesh Vashistha director Radioation Oncology Max Hospital Bathinda and President AROI was also present and he talked about teaching activities conducted by ICRO (Indian College of Radiation Oncology), an academic wing of AROI. Dr. Vivek Kaushal Professor and Head Radiation Oncology from Pandit B. D. Sharma PGI, Rohtak delivered prestigious B. D. Gupta Memorial oration. He talked about artificial intelligence in cancer diagnosis and treatment and explained about its pros and cones. Dr. Sushmita Ghoshal Prof. and Head PGI Chandigarh delivered her talk on head and neck Melanoma. Dr. Manoj Gupta from AIIMS Rishikesh and President elect AROI explained about Radiobiology and its importance in treating cancers with radiation. Dr. Rakesh Kapoor Prof. PGI Chandigarh and President NZAROI was also present on this occasion. Dr. Deepak ABROI from GMC Kathua and Secretary of NZAROI spoke about cancer prevention. Dr. G. V. Giri Secretary AROI, Dr. Pooja Nandwani Patel, Secretary Gujarat Chapter of AROI and Dr. Shantun Paul President West Bengal Chapter showed keen interest in attending this conference. A record no. of 45 abstracts were received and presented by students from J & K, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttrakhand. The scientific content was highly appreciated and delegates thanked for excellent hospitality and management. On this occasion Dr. G. K.
