Amid Punjab Congress mess, Harish Rawat seeks to be relieved of state party duties
With the Assembly elections in Uttarakhand due next year, Harish Rawat, who is the Congress's campaign committee chairman there, has sought to be relieved as the in-charge of the Congress affairs in Punjab. Harish Rawat said," To concentrate on the upcoming polls in Uttarakhand, I want to be relieved of the responsibility as the party's Punjab affairs in-charge." "If my party asks me to continue as the Punjab affairs in-charge, I will continue,” said Harish Rawat. Punjab and Uttarakhand would go to polls next year. While the Congress is seeking to retain power in Punjab, it aims to return to power by defeating the ruling BJP in the hill state. The Punjab Congress is witnessing infighting between the camps of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and state Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.
