Ambedkar Jayanti 2022: CM Bhagwant Mann pays tributes to Baba Saheb on his birth anniversary
Jalandhar, April 14: On the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann paid tributes to Bhim Rao Ambedkar on his birth anniversary at a state-level function at Bootan Pind. Addressing a gathering on Ambedkar Jayanti, the Chief Minister on Thursday said BR Ambedkar gave democracy to India. "It is only due to the democracy given by Ambedkar that common people, regardless of their gender, caste or social status, have constitutional rights.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader further asked his MLAs to serve people, irrespective of their votes. CM Mann also promised to start courses and universities in Babasaheb's name, while declaring that a sports university is to come up in Jalandhar and the city will be developed as a sports hub. Born on April 14, 1891, Dr Ambedkar was an economist and advocate of human rights and women empowerment. He is considered a leading nation builder of India and was the president of India’s constituent assembly which gave the world its lengthiest written constitution. April 14 is observed as Ambedkar Jayanti to honour Dr Ambedkar’s countless contributions to the making of present-day India. Ambedkar Jayanti is also observed to remember the jurist’s dedication to fighting social evils such as caste discrimination and oppression.
