Ambedkar Jayanti 2021: Centre announces April 14 as public holiday
BR Ambedkar Jayanti 2021: The central government has declared April 14 as a public holiday. BR Ambedkar was the architect of the Indian Constitution.
On the occasion of BR Ambedkar Jayanti 2021, the government has announced that from this year April 14 will be declared as a public holiday.

“It has been decided to declare Wednesday, 14th April 2021 as a public holiday on account of the birthday of Dr B R Ambedkar, for all Central Government Offices, including Industrial Establishments throughout India by invoking the powers under Section 25 of Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881,” read the notification.

Last year, the Centre, in a similar announcement, declared April 14 as a national holiday. This year, it is going to be Ambedkar’s 130th birth anniversary on April 14.
Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, alias Babasaheb Ambedkar, was born on April 17, 1891. His father Ramji Sakpal was a Subedar in the army while his mother Bhimbai Kapal was a housemaker.
In 1897, the family settled in Mumbai and Ambedkar enrolled at Elphinstone High School. Post matriculation, he took admission to Elphinstone College in 1907. He did his graduation from Bombay University in 1912 in Economics and Political Science.
