All major events in Punjab postponed, says Samuyukta Kisan Morcha
Farmers Protest: In the wake of the proposed 'Rail Roko' agitation across India on February 18, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha on Tuesday announced that all major events in Punjab including scheduled Mahapanchayat have been postponed. Samyukta Kisan Morcha, during the press conference, stated that it was expecting the proposed 'Rail Roko' agitation across India on February 18 to be successful. The preparations are underway, a farmer leader said, adding that the government will realise that it was the national movement. The government is thinking that the agitation has weakened, the farmer leader said, adding that the farmers are getting ready and will join the borders soon. Several Mahapanchayats were scheduled to be held in Punjab. A farmer leader said that the scheduled Mahapanchayat in Punjab remained cancelled. Adding, he said that there is no need for such events at this time but if needed, such events will be called. The farmers have been protesting against three contentious laws i.e. Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020. -PTC News
