4G mobile internet to be restored in Jammu and Kashmir
For the first time since August 2019, the 4G mobile internet services are being restored in Jammu and Kashmir, a top official of the administration said on Friday. It may be recalled that the high-speed internet connection was disrupted in J&K in August 2019. It was a preventive measure before the Central government revoked the state's special status by abrogating Article 370. Following the development, high-speed internet services were restricted. Though 2G services were restored to several places the high-speed services were yet to be restored. Meanwhile, J&K principal secretary (power and information) Rohit Kansal took to Twitter and wrote: "4G mobile internet services being restored in entire J&K." Likewise, the Centre, in April 2020, told the Supreme Court that the decision on restoring 4G mobile internet services in Jammu and Kashmir can not be made in the wake of militancy in the Union Territory. Omar Abdullah, National Conference leader, said in a tweet: "4G Mubarak! For the first time since Aug 2019, all of J&K will have 4G mobile data. Better late than never." The internet was suspended on August 4, 2019, as a preventive measure. At first, the landlines were restored in the Union Territory while the 2G services were restored, on January 25, 2020, only for verified users. -PTC News
