24,000 voter booths set up for 2022 Assembly elections: Punjab poll officer
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Punjab, Karuna Raju, on Monday discussed preparations for Punjab Assembly elections due in 2022.
Karuna Raju said that the preparations for the Punjab Assembly elections, due in 2022, have already started. Punjab has a total of 2 crores 9 lakh voters out of which approximately 1 crore are women.

This year transgenders will also participate in the upcoming elections.

In an order to maintain the law and order in Punjab, the Chief Electoral Officer said that a meeting was held with SSPs. Meanwhile, action is being taken against the proclaimed offenders. Those having weapons are also being monitored. Around 3.8 people in Punjab have weapons, Karuna Raju said.
Furthermore, he said that around 24,000 voter booths have been set up for the polling this year.
According to information, there are a total of 24,689 polling stations out of which 7,727 are in urban areas and 16,962 are in rural areas.
There will be separate arrangements for Covid patients, he said, adding that they have also made a provision to allow the officials to visit the residence of the elderly (aged 80 above), who cannot visit polling booths to exercise their franchise.
