2021 will see four eclipses, only two to be visible in India

2021 will witness a total of four eclipses, including a total solar eclipse and a total lunar eclipse, out of which only two of them will be visible from India. A Ujjain-based Jiwaji Observatory’s Superintendent Dr. Rajendraprakash Gupt informed about the eclipses in India in 2021. As per the report, Gupt said that the first of the eclipses will take place on May 26 which would be seen in parts of West Bengal, coastal Odisha, and in the north-eastern states, except Sikkim. He said that the earth will cover the moon by 101.6 percent during this event. Meanwhile, a total lunar eclipse takes place when the earth comes between the moon and the sun. Gupt further said the annular solar eclipse in 2021 will take place on June 10 but will not be visible in India. The moon, during this event, comes between the sun and earth, due to which the sun gets 94.3 percent covered and is seen as a ‘ring of fire’. 2021 will witness a total of 4 eclipses, including total solar eclipse and total lunar eclipse, of which only 2 will be visible from India. In 2021, the partial lunar eclipse will be seen on November 19 and will be visible from part of India including Arunachal Pradesh and some parts of Assam but for a very short period of time. He also said that during a partial lunar eclipse, 97.9 percent of the moon will be covered by the earth’s shadow. The total solar eclipse, the last of 2021, will take place on December 4. However, it will not be visible from India. In 2020, two solar and 4 lunar eclipses took place. -PTC News
