Farmers in Madhya Pradesh Duped with Contract Farming: While farmers are protesting at Delhi borders to get farm laws 2020 repealed, the Central government is trying hard to convince them that the Agri laws are in their interests.
So, are these farm laws 2020 really in farmers' interest? Around 200 farmers in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh said that a private firm duped them with contract farming. The company took money in 2018 and disappeared, the farmers alleged.

With this, the Centre's promise that contract farming within the Price Assurance and Farm Services Act 2020 will pull out farmers from distress has been put to test in Madhya Pradesh's Betul district.
Hundreds of farmers in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh, who entered a contract for drumstick farming in 2018, are unable to get a case registered against the company.

Likewise, the protesting farmers at Delhi borders are saying that the farm laws would lead to their eviction from their own land if they failed to honour contracts with a company.
A man who owns five acres of land in village Bhaisdehi in Betul said that the company identified as UWEGO Agri Solutions Private Limited was introduced to the farmers by the state horticultural department.
Reportedly, he is among 200 estimated farmers who signed the contract for drumstick farming in the district but did not receive the plant saplings or were provided with plants that could not survive.
Meanwhile, the district administration has asked the agriculture department to initiate an enquiry but nothing has come out of it.
