Coronavirus cases in Punjab rise to 1,964; death toll 35; recovered 1,366
The total number of coronavirus cases in Punjab has increased to 1964 after 18 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, as of Sunday evening. The death toll in the state stands at 35 after new deaths were reported from Ludhiana and Gurdaspur. Two COVID-19 deaths were reported from Gurdaspur while a 6-year-old boy from Ludhiana died on Saturday at around 11:00 pm. The cause of death was acute liver failure, hepatic encephalopathy, refractory shock with respiratory failure, and acute hepatitis, however, he was reported positive for coronavirus. According to the media bulletin issued by the Punjab Health Department, Ludhiana reported 5 new cases while SBS Nagar reported 3 new cases of coronavirus. Amritsar reported 6 new cases while Faridkot reported 4 COVID-19 cases. A total of 109 patients were declared cured and discharged in the last 24 hours. Of 109 recovered cases, 18 are from Amritsar, 5 each from Ropar and Patiala, 36 from Muktsar, 34 from Faridkot, and 11 from Bathinda. Amritsar is on the top of the tally as it has reported 307 COVID-19 cases so far followed by Jalandhar at 207, Tarn Taran at 154, Ludhiana at 144. Gurdaspur has 122 cases of coronavirus while SBS Nagar stands at 106 cases. Mohali has 102 cases while Patiala has reported 100 cases so far. Hoshiarpur has 92 cases. Sangrur tally of coronavirus cases stands at 88 while Muktsar stands at 65. A total of 59 cases have been reported from Moga, 60 from Ropar, 56 from Fatehgarh Sahib. Bathinda has 41 COVID-19 cases so far. Mansa has recorded 32 cases, while 29 cases have been reported from Pathankot, 32 from Kapurthala, 21 from Barnala. Meanwhile, 563 are the active cases while 1366 people have been cured and discharged.
